Film maker Anthony Masi talks about telling tales of horror history with the G2V Guys! Through his company MasiMedia, Masi has produced retrospectives on everything from the Halloween and Friday the 13th franchises to his new release, The 50 Best Horror Movies You’ve Never Seen (available as of May 27th on VOD, links below!) G2V’s own Arnold T. Blumberg is one of many commentators appearing in this roller coaster ride of a feature that explores Masi’s favorite subject – the macabre magic and misdirection that makes movie monstrosities so mesmerizing!
In our final Halloween-themed installment for 2013, The G2V Podcast welcomes a special guest – an internationally recognized zombie expert that co-authored ZOMBIEMANIA: 80 MOVIES TO DIE FOR (with a revised edition titled ZOMBIEMANIA RISES: 100 MOVIES TO DIE FOR on the way, cataloguing about 1,000 films!), teaches a course at the University of Baltimore called “Zombies in Popular Media,” contributed to volumes like TRIUMPH OF THE WALKING DEAD, BRAAAIIINNNSSS!: FROM ACADEMICS TO ZOMBIES, and THE UNDEAD AND THEOLOGY, and lectures on “Zombies: Monsters with Meaning” at symposia, conventions, and festivals. Who is it? None other than G2V co-host Arnold T. Blumberg!
Scott and Arnold look back at the history of zombies in pop culture, where they started, where they shambled (and occasionally ran) in the years that followed until they infected every medium and genre, and what this whole undying zombie craze might actually mean.
We also have a special contest this episode! Midnight Syndicate has graciously provided us with a copy of their phenomenal new album that pays tribute to the Universal and Hammer legacy, Monsters of Legend! We’re giving a copy away to the listener who can answer the following trivia question (also presented in the episode). E-mail, post on our Facebook page or in the comments below, send your answer through the post-apocalyptic wilderness, and if you get it right, the CD will be yours!
This movie was the first to introduce the idea that zombies specifically want to eat brains:

E) Re-Animator
Good luck!
NOTE: This episode was uploaded by an unknown party that discovered the file on a server after being unable to contact either Scott or Arnold. Listeners should be warned that some of what they may hear might be considered…alarming…
His influence has wound its way tentacle-like into every nook and cranny of pop culture. In a vast and mysterious ocean of entertainment, his stories have inspired and influenced entire waves of film, television, comics, games, and so much more. This way may lead to madness, but Scott and Arnold devote this installment of their month-long Halloween exploration by diving deep into the legacy of the one, the only H.P. Lovecraft! And to do it right, Arnold travelled all the way from Baltimore MD to Portland OR, just in time to join Scott for a Lovecraft film festival featuring a 35mm print of Re-Animator!
We also have a special contest this episode! Midnight Syndicate has graciously provided us with a copy of one of their albums, The 13th Hour, which we’re giving away to the listener who can answer the following trivia question (also presented in the episode). E-mail, post on our Facebook page, beam your answer into our addled minds, and if you get it right, the CD will be yours!

…but be warned, The G2V Podcast can not be held responsible if listening to this episode alters your physical form or renders you utterly insane!
In their second weekly episode in October to celebrate Halloween, Scott and Arnold take a fond look back at one of the greatest sustained periods of horror movie magic with a chat about the Universal Studios horror movies of the 1920s-1940s and the many monsters that populated their memorable pantheon.
To help them out, the guys welcome author Steven Warren Hill of the two-volume guide to classic horror cinema from 1920-1951, Silver Scream!
SPECIAL NOTE: We’d like to thank well-known Halloween music and gothic horror fantasy soundtrack composers and performers, Midnight Syndicate, for allowing us to incorporate music from their phenomenal new album that also pays tribute to the Universal legacy, Monsters of Legend.
We also want to draw your attention to the group’s new Kickstarter campaign to enable them to perform live; it has a goal of at least $40,000 by Sunday, November 10, 11:30pm EST. Check out the details here or via the banner link on the right on our site. Thanks again, guys!
TECHNICAL NOTE: We continue to work out the technical kinks, but this one is odd. This was our first three-way (please, don’t) conversation (recorded prior to our interview with Stephen Graves in the preceding “Satellite” episode), but not entirely for that reason, Scott’s audio fell about a second behind Arnold’s and Steve’s. This results in a weird recurring delay in which it seems that Arnold and Steve are stepping on Scott’s comments or leaving him as the last to react to something in the conversation, resulting in creepy delayed laughter from Scott. Trust us – the guys aren’t being rude to him, neither is Scott demonically possessed. Although we do think “Scott’s Laugh” may become a new CreepyPasta worthy of the SCP Foundation:
ITEM #: SCP-3370 – SCOTT’S LAUGH
OBJECT CLASS: KETER
SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES: Since this is a sound – possibly independent of any actual recording technology or physical media – containment is a difficult if not impossible task, with the most effort concentrated instead on raising awareness and exercising extreme caution.
DESCRIPTION: This is the ghostly delayed laughter of G2V Podcast producer and co-host Scott Alan Woodard, who slipped out of phase one day and kept laughing out of sync with reality. Sometimes people say they can hear his laugh – always delayed by an awkward amount of time – on YouTube videos, their own iPhones, and even old CDs. Some even report continuing to hear the laugh long after they’ve shut off any recording or device, as if the sound has infected them or taken up residence inside their auditory canal. Others wake in the middle of the night to utter silence, but if they wait a moment…
“HAHAHAHAHA!”
In all documented cases, the laugh causes dementia and eventually death.
Scott and Arnold kick off a month-long tribute to the greatest holiday of them all – Halloween – with a tribute to a film maker whose name is synonymous with that festival: John Carpenter! The guys have selected five films to discuss in this feature-length episode – HALLOWEEN, THE FOG, THE THING, PRINCE OF DARKNESS, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS – three of which comprise the director’s self-titled “Apocalypse Trilogy.” Join us as we start a month of horror and mayhem with a Master of the Macabre, the Prince of Darkness himself!
